Katerina Evangelatos

Stage director and artistic director of the Athens Epidaurus Festival, she was born in Athens and stems from a well known artistic family. She studied philosophy (NKUA), music (Hellenic Conservatory, piano, guitar) and theatre (directing, acting) in Athens (National Theatre of Greece Drama School), London (Middlesex University) and Moscow (Academy of Theatre Arts GITIS), receiving scholarships and awards. She was honoured with the Young creator’s award (Union of Greek Theatre and Music Critics, 2009), as well as with the Eleftheria Sapountzi prize (2011). She has directed more than 20 large scale productions in leading organisations in Greece and abroad (NTG, AEF, GNO, Onassis Stegi, Spyros A. Evangelatos Amfi-Theatre, State Theatre Augsburg, Perm Opera, etc), moving from ancient drama to opera and from adapted literature and classic works to contemporary repertoire. She often translates the works she directs. She has taught at the Department of Theatre Studies (Athens and Peloponnese Universities) and in drama schools.
