Agostino Ferrin

He was born in Piove di Sacco, Italy on 27/07/1928. He studied voice in Milan under Cesare Kieza and made his debut at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, in Valentino Bucchi’s opera Il Contrabbasso. In the 1957/ 58 season, he reappeared at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in Rossini’s opera Le Comte Ory. He appeared at La Scala Milan for eleven consecutive seasons, while he sang in several major theaters in Italy and the rest of Europe, such as Verona, Monte Carlo, Palermo, Parma, Venice, Genoa, Turin, Bologna, Rome, Trieste, Brussels, Barcelona, London, Munich, Marseille, Zurich, Hamburg, Sofia, etc. His repertory included major baritone roles such as Baldassare [The Favorite/La Favorita], Raimondo [Lucia di Lammermoor], Oroveso [Norma], Sir Giorgio [The Puritans/I puritani], Jacopo Fiesco [Simon Boccanegra], Zaccaria [Nabucco], Don Ruy Gomez de Silva [Ernani], Sparafucile [Rigoletto], Ramfis [Aida], Ferrando [Il trovatore], Don Basilio [Il barbiere di Siviglia] in the Rossini version and Don Bartolo in the Paisiello version, Colline [La bohème], Mefistofele [Mefistofele] and Tigellino [in Arrigo Boito’s Nerone]. He made his last appearance in 1989, at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo, singing the role of Stromminger in Alfredo Catalani’s opera La Wally. A number of his performances opposite leading soloists are available in recordings during the 1960s. He has also made a large number of records (Cetra, Arcadia, Nuova Era, Myto, Bongiovanni). With the GNO, he appeared in Aida in 1965. He died in Rome on 17/08/1989.
