Andonis Foniadakis
Choreographer
He was born in Ierapetra, Crete and began dancing lessons there with Niki Papadaki. He continued his studies at the Greek National School of Dance, Athens (1990/92) and at the Rudra Bejart school of Lausanne (1992/94) on a Maria Callas Foundation scholarship. He has danced with the Maurice Bejart ballet (1994/96), the Opera of Lyon ballet (1996/2000) and the Saburo Teshigawara/Karas ballet (2004). In 2003, he founded the Apotosoma dance company in Lyon, which has appeared in Europe and USA, presenting presenting the performances Sensitive Screens Skins Intervals, Use, Rite of Spring, All things are quite silent, Romeo and Juliet and Wisteria Maiden. He has performed choreographic works of William Forsythe, Mats Ek, Bill T. Jones,Maguy Marin, Jiri Kilian, etc.). He has worked as a choreographer with many major ballet companies in France, United Kngsom, USA, Brazil, Greece, Holland and elsewere. He choreographed two operas for the Opera National du Rhin (Strasbourg). In 2013, he created a new choreography of Rite of Spring for the Ballet of the Grand Théâtre de Genève. In 2012 he received the Danza and Danza Award for the “Best Choroegrapher 2012” in Italy, for the creation Les Noces in Maggio Danza. In 2014 he collaborates as a moving coordinator for 3-dimensional characters with Darren Aronosfky on his new film NOAH and collaborated with the Martha Graham Dance company (New York) in the presentation of th perfromance Echo at the New York City Center. He also teaches dance –mostly dance technique– in masterclasses in Greece, Israel, Berlin, Lyon, Amsterdam, Funland. For the GNO he choreographed the ballet When the dove cries [Otan i peristera thrinei] (2005/06).
