Savvas Haratsidis
Painter, Set and costume designer
He was born in Athens in 1925 and died in Lefkada in 1994. He took private studies under Panos Sarafianos, Theodoros Drosos and Yiannis Tsarouchis. From 1957 onwards he began to exhibit in group exhibitions. In 1972 he staged his first solo exhibition at the gallery Time. He was a self-taught set and costume designer. He started his career by designing the set for the production of Chekhov’s play Ivanov, at the National Theater, directed by Leonidas Trivizas (1966). He designed sets and costumes for more than 20 productions of the National Theatre (1966-1994). In 1968 he made the first of a total of 15 times he collaborated with the Art Theater [Measure for measure]. A highlight in his career was his collaboration with director George Sevastikoglou in the play The Taming of the Shrew (National Theater of Northern Greece, 1979). He also collaborated with the Municipal Regional Theaters (DIPETHE) of Kalamata and Rhodes and many private theater troupes (Dimitris Horn, Karezi-Kazakos, Fertis-Kalogeropoulou, People's Experimental Theater, Alexandraki-Galinea, Lineos-Photiou, Fertis-Denisi, etc.). He worked with several renowned directors such as Alexis Solomos, Karolos Koun, Andreas Boutsinas, Stavros Doufexis, Giorgos Michaelides, etc. During his 27-year-long career, he undertook stage productions of all types and forms. Several of his works are exhibited in the National Gallery, the Municipal Gallery of Rhodes, the National Bank of Greece Cultural Foundation (MIET), etc. His theater experience is presented in the essay Scene and Writing (I skini kai I graphi) (Athens, 1992). He was a member of the Chamber of Fine Arts of Greece (EETE). During the 1983/84 season he collaborated with the GNO, designing the set and costumes for the production of the opera Maria Golovin.
