Heinz Holecek

He was born in Vienna on 13/4/1938. He studied solo singing at the Conservatory of Vienna and continued his studies at the Academy of Music and Drama in Vienna, under teachers such as: Elisabeth Radó and Elisabeth Höngen. As Papageno (The Magic Flute/Die Zauberflöte), he made his first appearance at the Vienna Volksoper in 1960, and in 1962 at the Vienna State Opera. During the period 1965-1992, he was on the staff of both those opera houses. In addition, he collaborated with opera houses around the world, including Paris, Barcelona, Rome, Stockholm, Zurich, Munich, Berlin, Festival of Bregenz, and he participated in the first staging of the opera Baal by Friedrich Cerha (Salzburg Festival). He excelled as Figaro (Le nozze di Figaro, Il barbiere di Siviglia), Guglielmo (Così fan tutte), Gianni Schicchi (Gianni Schicchi), Fra Melitone (La forza del destino). In the operetta genre, he was particularly famous as Dr. Falke, Frank and Frosch (Die Fledermaus). A multifaceted artist, he was active internationally, participating in symphony concerts, interpreting Lieder, as well as acting in cabaret performances. He served as artistic director and director at the festival of Salzburg and he was the founder (1987) and director of the "Kamptalfestspiele" musical celebrations (Austria). He made recordings on vinyl (Preiser Records, Polydor, DECCA) and was particularly popular with the Austrian Radio and Television, running his own shows, often as a parodist of characters. His son, Sebastian Holecek, is also a recognized opera singer. He died in Vienna on 13/4/2012.
