Panajotis Iconomou
Soloist, Bass-baritone
Bass-baritone, he was born in Germany of Greek parentage. As a child he performed with Herbert von Karajan, Nikolaus Harnoncourt and Sergiu Celibidache. After his studies in London with a scholarship from Onassis Foundation he made his debut as Colline (La bohème) at the Scottish Opera. His repertoire includes Don Giovanni and Leporello (Don Giovanni), Figaro (Le nozze di Figaro), Sarastro (Die Zauberflöte), Basilio
(Il barbiere di Siviglia), Sparafucile (Rigoletto), Filippo II (Don Carlo) and Mephistopheles (Faust). He has sung at the ENO, Welsh National Opera, Opéra Bastille, Dutch National Opera and Ballet, as well as at the Operas of Bonn and Cologne. Moreover, he has performed in Italy, at the theatres of Turin, Genova, Parma, Pisa, Napoli and at the openair summer festivals of Macerata and Taormina. He works often with
the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra. He has worked with such conductors as John Eliot Gardiner, Philippe Jordan, Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, Manfred Honeck, Paul McCreesh, Trevor Pinnock and directors like Pierre Audi, Stefan Herheim, Pier Luigi Pizzi and Calixto Bieito. // Last update: March 2019
