He was born in Brindisi, Italy on 12/10/1930. He studied, among others, under Raoul Frazzi in Florence and conductor Tullio Serafin in Rome. He made his debut in Gand, Belgium and in 1950 sang the role of the Duke of Madua in Rigoletto at Florence’s Teatro Comunale. He sang successfully at top lyrical stages in Italy, as in Milan’s Scala and the Rome Opera, in Bologna, Florence, Naples, Palermo, Trieste and Torino. He appeared as a guest vocal soloist at Vienna’s State Opera, in lyrical theaters in Paris, Marseille, Lyon and Nice, at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Hamburg’s State Opera, at Stuttgart and Munich, London’s Royal Opera, in Amsterdam, Lisbon, Barcelona, Geneva, Zurich, Budapest and Pittsburg (USA). He has interpreted lyrical as well as dramatic roles in Italian (Bellini, Donizetti, Rossini, Verdi, Puccini, Mascagni) and French (Massenet, Halévy, Bizet, Gounod) repertoire. He sang at the world premiere of Malipiero’s opera Gli eroi di Bonaventura (Milan, 1969). After retiring, he spent time in teaching. He died on 15/07/2011. Interpretations of his are found in commercial records produced by Angelicum-Ricordi and Replica, where he sings the particularly demanding role of Arnoldo in Rossini’s Guglielmo Tell opera. He collaborated with GNO once, during the 1971-72 period, interpreting the role of Canio in Pagliacci.
