Schütz Johannes

Set Designer
Born in Frankfurt, he studied and assisted Wilfried Minks in Hamburg and Berlin. He started working as a set designer at the Schiller Theater and the Münchner Kammerspiele. His theatre credits include The Merchant of Venice (Royal Shakespeare Theatre), Botho Strauss’ Big and Small (Barbican Centre), Tankred Dorst’s Auf dem Chimborazo (Münchner Kammerspiele), Kleist’s Das Käthchen von Heilbronn, Albee’s Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? etc. His opera credits include Jenůfa and L’incoronazione di Poppea (Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Düsseldorf), Die Entführung aus dem Serail (Kassel State Theatre), Parsifal and Das Schloss (La Monnaie, Brussels) with Peter Mussbach, Il barbiere di Siviglia (Frankfurt Opera), Orfeo ed Euridice, Ariadne auf Naxos and numerous productions for Salzburg Festival and Odéon-Théâtre de l’Europe in Paris. His publications include: Stages 2000-2007 and Johannes Schütz: Models & Interviews 2002-2015. For his work he has received numerous awards.
