Julie Karagouni
Soloist, Soprano
She was born in Thessaloniki and studied solo singing at the New Conservatory of Thessaloniki (under Barbara Tsampali), graduating with honors, First Prize and distinction. She continued her studies in Italy with the G. Ravazzi, G. Canetti and F. Matiucci, and in Greece under Varvara Gavakou. She attended seminars, as a scholar, in Greece (by Chryssanthos Alisafis) and abroad. She won awards and distinctions in international competitions. She studied classical guitar under Evangelos Asimakopoulos. She debuted in opera in 1997, in the Thessaloniki Opera Workshop production of The Medium, singing the leading role of Mrs Flora. In 1998 she appeared in Italy as Giorgetta in the opera Il tabarro. She worked with the GNO in the period 2001-08, singing soprano roles in the operas The Possessed [Oi Daimonismenoi] by Haris Vrontos (as Barbara), The Tsar's Bride (as Saburova), Macbeth (as Lady Macbeth) and in the musical show Remember those years [Thymisou ekeina ta chronia] (as Rosalia Nika and Maria Kourmi). She also collaborated with the Athens Concert Hall in the production of Richard Strauss’ Elektra, with the Thessaloniki Opera in Aida and Die Zauberflöte, the Thessaloniki Municipal Orchestra, the Saxophone Orchestra of Nice and the Lavrio Philharmonic. She appeared in Italy, Russia, etc. She sang songs by Greek composers in Moscow in 2005, as part of the Moscow Nights festival.
