Yiannis Karounis

Dancer, Choreographer
He studied dance under a scholarship at the Jacob’s Pillow School of Dance in Massachusetts (2002). He was a listener at the Greek National School of Dance (KSOT, 1998), and he graduated from Niki Kontaxaki’s Professional Higher Dance School (1997). He worked as a dancer and/or choreographer with many Greek institutions, such as: The Greek Dance Company, the International Dance Festival in Gazi, the Athens Festival, the National Theatre, the Athens Concert Hall, the Festival of Greek Choreographers (“Michael Cacoyannis” Foundation, 2014), Naxos Festival, the Dance Days Festival in Chania (2013), the Work in Progress Dance Project (Theatre “Empros”), Hydra R.I.C.E., the Benaki Museum, the Athens Video Dance Project etc. He has danced and/or presented his choreographies at international events such as: The International Dance Festival in Seoul, Korea, the XVII International Festival of Modern Dance “Contemporanea” in Mexico, the Caldera Festival in Spain (2012). He has also collaborated with the dance companies AKIN, Eiresis, X-ART, Oniro, Salto Futuro, Magma, Proschima, Opsi, the Greek Dance Company and with the choreographers Ted Stoffer, Apostolia Papadamaki, Aleta Collins, Nana Vachla. He is a founding member of the group Saltator and he has choreographed the works Dynamo 3, Portraits [Porteta], Meetings [Sinantisis], Unsuitable persons – Scavengers [Akatallila prosopa - Rakosilektes], Disposable People [Anthropi mias hrisis], Let’s say that...[Esto oti...], Eftapetro, Orbital, In The Daylight [Sto fos tis imeras]. He has collaborated once with the GNO as a dancer in the presentation of the ballet Zorba (1997/98, Odeon of Herodes Atticus). // Last update of the biography: November 2018 - The list of the productions will be added soon.
