He was born in Germany in 1968. He studied in Essen. He began his career as an oboist and was subsequently distinguished in song festivals. As one of the most sought-after "heroic" tenors of our time, he has appeared in the most major opera centers worldwide : Vienna, New York, Milan, Berlin, London, Dresden, Hamburg, Munich, Amsterdam, Brussels, Barcelona, Paris, Florence, Rome, Oslo, Zurich, Tokyo, Μπαϋρόιτ, Salzburg, Edinburgh, n.e.c. In the period 1996-2014 he appeared at the festival in Bayrouth in ten productions and/or revivals of the operas Tannhäuser, The Master Singers of Nuremberg (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg) and the Flying Dutchman (Der fliegende Holländer). His repertory focuses on leading Wagner roles such as Eric (The Flying Dutchman), Prsifal, Lohengrin and Tannhäuser in the same title operas, Loge (Gold of the Rhine/Das Rheingold), Τristan (Tristan und Isolde), Rienzi (Rienzi), Ziegmund (The Valkyrie/Die Walküre), Siegfried (The twilight of the gods/Götterdämmerung). In addition, he has sung the roles of Max (The Freeshooter/Der Freischütz), Paul (The Dead City/Die totte Stadt), Pedro (The Lowlands/Tiefland), Don Jose (Carmen), Samson (Samson et Dalila), Otello (Otello). He has worked with leading conductors (Barenboim, Chailly, Levine, Janovski, Bychkov, etc. ) and directors (Willy Decker, Harry Kupfer, David Pountney, Wolfgang Wagner, etc. ).
