Ladko (Ladislav) Korošec

He was born in Zagorje ob Savi of Slovenia on 03/08/1920. He studied voice in Ljubljana with the teacher Julij Betetto. He took classes in a school of Drama and from a young age performed in amateur theater troupes. He began his professional career as a singer at the Slovene National Theatre Opera and Ballet Ljubljana where he remained until 1971. On various engagements he worked with the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb, the Prague State Opera, the Teatro Verdi in Trieste, the Municipal Theater of Bologna (1969), the Wiesbaden City Festival and the Holland Festival where he appeared as King of Spades in the opera Love for Three Oranges by Sergei Prokovief. He sang the same roles later in Paris. He won acclaim for his performance of the following roles: Figaro [The marriage of Figaro/ Le nozze di Figaro], Leporello [Don Giovanni] , Kecala [Prodaná nevěsta], Don Bartolo [The barber of Seville/ Il barbiere di Siviglia], Strukelj [The Nightingale of Gorenjska] by Anton Foerster, Osmin [The Abduction from the Seraglio/ Die Entführung aus dem Serail], Cherevik The Fair at Sorochyntsi Sorochintsï Fair by Modest Mussorgsky, Dr Dulcamara [ L'elisir d'amore]. He has sang beside the bass singer Miroslav Čangalović in the opera Don Quixote. He was awarded with the Prešeren prize three times (1949, 1959 και 1978) and once with the Betteto prize (1988). His recordings are with the Philips and Everest companies. He died in Ljubljana on 21/03/1995) .
