
Denia Mazzola-Gavasteni

She was born in Italy on 04/02/1953. She studied at the Verona Conservatory under Rina Malatrasi, Rodolfo Celletti and Leyla Gencer. She succeeded at the international opera competition “Mattia Battistini.” She made her debut in Rieti (Italy) as Gilda [Rigoletto] (1982). She sang at Rome’s Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, as well as in major opera houses, including: La Scala Milan, Metropolitan Opera New York, Florence Municipal Theatre, Teatro La Fenice Venice, Teatro Carlo Felice Genoa, Real Teatro di San Carlo Naples, Teatro Massimo Palermo and Massimo Bellini Theater Catania. During the decade 1982-92 she exhelled as a performer of roles in operas by Donizetti: Norina [Don Pasquale], Adina [The Elixir of Love/L’elisir d’amore], Marie [The Daughter of the Regiment/La fille du regiment], and the title role in Lucia di Lammermoor. She also sang the following leading opera roles: Amina [The Sleepwalker/La sonnambula], Fiordiligi [Thus Do They All/Così fan tutte], Donna Elvira [Don Giovanni], Rosina [The Barber of Seville/Il barbiere di Siviglia] and Violetta Valéry [The Fallen Woman/La traviata]. In 2005 she founded the non-profit Cultural Association Ab Harmoniae Onlus Ab Harmoniae Onlus “Musica per la solidarietà.” She has been awarded by various European institutions. She has often performed religious music works in concerts and recordings. She collaborated with the GNO once, as Gioconda [La Gioconda] (2004/05). She is married to orchestra conductor Gianandrea Gavazzeni.
