Giannis Mejikov(Papadakis)

Painter, Set Designer, Costume Designer
He was born in Kasteli, Kissamos, Chania. He graduated from the Athens School of Fine Arts (1980). Among others, his professors were Yiannis Moralis (painting) and Vasilis Vasileiadis (scenography). After many individual and group painting shows in Greece and abroad, he turned to theater in the 1980s. His first professional experience as a scenographer was at Giorgos Michailidis’s Open Theater ('Tis Pity She's a Whore, 1986/87). Thereafter, he worked as a scenographer and costume designer at known theatrical and other organizations (National Theater, National Theater of Northern Greece, Athens Concert Hall Organization, Cyprus Theatre Organisation, Theater of Art, etc.), with highly acclaimed directors (Cacoyannis, Volanakis, Voutsinas, Koundouros, Evangelatos, Michailidis, Tsianos, Houvardas, Marmarinos, Kakleas, Chronopoulos, Mastorakis, etc.) and choreographers (Zouzou Nikoloudi, Dimitris Papaioannou, etc). He has held many individual painting exhibitions in Greece and abroad: Brussels (1989), Municipal Museum of Valencia (Valencia, 1990), Goulandris Museum (Athens, 1994), Alexander Pushkin Museum (Moscow, 1995), Russian State Museum (Saint Petersburg, 1996), Sao Paolo Biennale (Brazil, 1994). Works of his are found in museums and private collections. The National Gallery of Greece has hosted exhibitions of his theatrical costumes (1985) and his entire theatrical work (2010). The second exhibition was inaugurated in Chania, Crete and ended in the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, London (October 2011). He collaborated with the Greek National Orchestra during the period 1996-2011 in the productions of Salome (Odeon of Herodes Atticus), The Shadowy Waters [Ta ksotika nera], Fedora, Marathon-Salamis, The Love Virus [To mikrovio tou erota] (Akropol) and Nabucco (Odeon of Herodes Atticus). // Last update of the biography: November 2020 - The list of the productions below is continually updated.
