Director
German director, she has gained international recognition as an artist of great sensitivity, detailed character work and visual flair. After studying theatre, musicology and psychology at the Ludwig-Maximilians University of Munich, she initially worked as assistant director at Bavarian State Opera (Munich), Vienna State Opera, Zurich Opera House, Teatro La Fenice (Venice), Bregenz Festival, Salzburg Festival and Festival d’Aix-en-Provence. She made her USA debut with Béatrice et Bénédict (Chicago Opera Theater, 2007) but the final international breakthrough came with
Thaïs (Göteborg Opera, 2010). Since then she has directed numerous operas in leading theatres worldwide in Seville, Valencia, Lisbon, Tallinn, Mexico, Bratislava, Copenhagen, Helsinki, Moscow and Los Angeles. Most recently, she directed Lakmé (Malmö Opera), Francesca da Rimini (Opéra National du Rhin, Strasbourg), Elektra (Teatro Nacional de São Carlos, Lisbon), Semiramide (Opéra de Saint-Étienne) and Il corsaro (Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía, Valencia). // Last update: November 2018
