Dagmar Niefind

Costume designer
She was born and grew up in Lübeck, Germany. She studied art in Hamburg, Düsseldorf and Berlin. She designed her first costumes for the Schaubühne Berlin and has worked with such theatre directors as Peter Stein (Botho Strauss’ Trilogy of Reunions) and Klaus Michael Grüber (Winterreise, Faust and King Lear). She also designed costumes for Jean Racine’s Bérénice (Comédie-Française, Paris), Der zerbrochne Krug and Emilia Galotti (Wiener Burgtheater, Berliner Theatertreffen) and La Juive (Opéra Bastille). She worked with Volker Schlöndorff on the films Die Blechtrommel and Die Fälschung. She taught for ten years at the Berlin University of the Arts. In 1986 she married to Marco Arturo Marelli and since then they have been working together worldwide in such operas as Opéra national de Paris, Vienna State Opera, Vienna Volksoper, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Hamburg State Opera, Zurich Opera House, Royal Opera House (Covent Garden, London), Dresden Semperoper, Finnish National Opera (Helsinki), Graz Opera, as well as in Tokyo, Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Copenhagen, etc. // Last update: October 2019
