Elli Papageorgakopoulou
Set Designer, Costume Designer
One of the leading Greek set and costume designers, she was born in Athens in 1966. She studied at the Thessaloniki School of Fine Arts and the Drama School of the National Theatre of Greece. She was an apprentice of Dionysis Fotopoulos. Since 1996, she had designed sets and costumes for more than sixty theatrical plays in Greece and abroad (London, Italy, etc.). She had worked with prominent directors in productions presented at the Amore Theatre, National Theatre of Greece, National Theatre of Northern Greece (Golfo, The Cherry Orchard, I Just Broke Up [Molis chorisa], etc.), Porta Theatre, Megaron - The Athens Concert Hall, Athens Epidaurus Festival and various Municipal and Regional Theatres. She designed the costumes for the Closing Ceremony of the Athens 2004 Olympics and for the 51st Eurovision Song Contest (2006). She has collaborated with several stage directors, including: Thomas Moschopoulos, Yannis Houvardas, Lefteris Vogiatzis (L’ École des femmes), Dimitris Lignadis, Maya Lyberopoulou, Stavros Tsakiris, Nikos Karathanos, Xenia Kalogeropoulou (Little Slave / To sklavi), etc. She also worked for the movie Dogtooth [Kynodontas] (2009) by Yorgos Lanthimos, which was awarded at the Cannes International Film Festival and featured in movie theaters around the world. She collaborated with the GNO in 2007 designing the sets and costumes for the triple ballet production Solitaire (MacMillan / Arnold), L'après-midi d'un faune (Mandafounis / Debussy) and Les Sylphides (Rigos / Adam). // Last update of the biography: April 2021.
