Lili Pezanou

Set Designer
She was born in Athens. She studied architecture and civil engineering at the National Technical University of Athens (1974-1980). She worked as an architect and as assistant set designer/costume designer in theater and cinema, at the side of Dionysis Fotopoulos, in Greece and abroad (1974-1980). As a set designer/costume designer, she presented her first works in 1986 at the play Fugue, staged at M. Paraschi’s Re Theater. Since then, she has been working with state theaters (National Theatre, National Theatre of Northern Greece, etc.), theater troupes (Karolos Koun Art Theatre, Apo Michanis Theater, etc.), the Athens Concert Hall (Treasure Island, 2013), the Thessaloniki Concert Hall, etc. She has collaborated with many renowned Greek directors such as Giorgos Lazanis, Marietta Rialdi, Dimitris Mavrikios, Minos Volonakis, Giorgos Armenis, Giorgos Michailidis, Maya Lyberopoulou, Stavros Doufexis, Giannis Houvardas, Michael Marmarinos, Diagoras Chronopoulos, Roula Pateraki, Giannis Rigas, Dimitris Papaioannou, Mimis Kougioumtzis, Barbara Mavromati, etc. She has designed sets for ancient drama and classical repertoire performances, poetic texts, contemporary drama (eg. two works by Dimitris Papaioannou, 2006), operas and dance performances. She has designed venues and organized and designed art exhibitions in cooperation with major museums (Benaki Museum, etc.) and private galleries. She has edited book publications. She has been a member of the creative team that designed and carried through the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the Athens 2004 Olympic Games, for which she also designed the sets and layouts. As of May 2009, she teaches scenography as an assistant professor in the Athens School of Fine Arts. For the GNO, she designed the set for Monolis Kolomiris’ opera The masterbuilder [O protomastroras], staged at the Athens Concert Hall in the 2007/08 season.
