Linda Roark-Strummer

She studied at Tulsa University and Southern Methodist University of Texas. She made her debut in the USA where in 1977 she sang Dorabella [Thus do they all/Così fan tutte] at the St. Louis Opera. She then moved to Europe and collaborated with the Stadttheaters von Heidelberg (1979/80). During 1980-1986 she worked with the Landestheater von Linz, singing the title role in the Austrian premieres of Lortzing’s opera Regina, Baldwin Sulzer’s The Love of Don Perlimplín and Belisa in the Garden [In seinem Garten liebt Don Perlimplin Belinda] (1984) and Szador Szokolay’s Samson (1985). She appeared in opera houses in Europe (mostly Germany and Italy), as well as in the USA and South America: New York City Opera, Teatro La Fenice Venice, Deutsche Opera Berlin, La Scala Milan, Trieste, Toronto, Montreal, Ravenna Festival, Arena di Verona Festival, Teatro di San Carlo Naples, Teatro Colón Buenos Aires, Hamburg State Opera, etc. She has sang leading and/or comprimario roles in Samson et Dalila, The Troubadour [Il trovatore], Macbeth, Tourandot, Stiffelio (as Lina), La forza del destino (as Leonora), Norma, Jenůfa, Tosca, The Tales of Hoffmann [Les Contes d'Hoffmann]. She appeared at the GNO once, singing the supporting role of Abigaille [Nabucco] during the 1991/92 season.
