Michalis Sdougos
Set Designer, Costume Designer
He was born in Thessaloniki, Greece. He studied set and costume design at the School of Fine Arts in Florence, graduating with honors in 1980. The following year he returned to Greece and worked with Leonidas Trivizas’ Popular Experimental Theater, as well as with the Poreia Theater, the Theater Club of Volos, Aliki Georgouli’s Apothiki Theater, Thymios Karakatsanis’ Laiki Skini and the Athens Festival. He has collaborated with the National Theater of Greece, the National Theater of Northern Greece and the Municipal Theaters (DIPETHE) of Agrinio, Rumeli, Rhodes, Crete, Serres and Larissa. His work in Kostas Georgousopoulos’ play The ages of ridiculous [Oi ilikies tou geloiou] (Athens Concert Hall) earned him an award from the Society of Greek Playwrights. He has worked in Greek television films and series. In cinema, he has designed sets and costumes for Lucia Rikaki’s films Quartet in 4 movements [Kouarteto se 4 kiniseis], Dead liqueur [Pethameno licker] and Dream Factory [Viotechnia oneiron] (1990). The latter won First Prize for Set Design in the Thessaloniki Film Festival. He collaborated with Vangelis (Papathanassiou) in the public performance of Mythodea - Music for the NASA Mission: 2001 Mars Odyssey, staged in June 2001 at the Temple of Zeus, Athens as part of the Cultural Olympiad. During the period 1996-2003, he was artistic director of the Municipal Theater of Rhodes (DIPETHE). He worked with the GNO Opera Studio once, designing the set and costumes for the musical Kiss me, Kate (1996/97).
