Peter Sidhom
Soloist, Baritone
He was born in Egypt to an Italian-Maltese mother and an Egyptian father. At the age of ten he moved with his family to England. He studied Modern Languages at the University of London (1971-1975?), worked for the BBC (1971-…..?), and studied singing under Hervey Alan and Josephine Veasey (1972-1977). He regularly appears in leading opera houses around the world, such as the Royal Opera House in London, Opéra Bastille, Opera on the Rhine (Strasbourg), Théâtre du Capitole Toulouse, Municipal Theatre Florence, Teatro La Fenice Venice, San Francisco Opera, Stuttgart State Theatre, Frankfurt Opera House and Royal Theatre of Madrid. He has collaborated with conductors David Atherton, Andrew Davis, Christoph von Dohnányi, Mark Elder, Bernard Haitink, Richard Hickox, Oliver Knussen, Sir Charles Mackerras, Antonio Pappano, Carlo Rizzi Edo de Waart, etc. His extensive repertoire includes the roles: Alberich [The ring of the Nibelung/Der Ring des Nibelungen], Faninal [The Knight of the Rose/Der Rosenkavalier], Baron Scarpia [Tosca], Balstrode [Peter Grimes], Klingsor [Parsifal], The Traveller [Death in Venice], Paulo Albiani [Simon Boccanegra], Falstaff [Falstaff], Don Pizarro [Fidelio]. He has recorded with several record labels (Chandos, Hererion, Conifer Classics, Teldec, Mondo Music). He collaborated with the GNO twice, singing the roles of Il Commendatore [Don Giovanni] (Acropol Theater, 2006/07) and Baron Scarpia [Tosca] (Olympia Theater, 2006/07).
