Fotini Skaramagka-Bourdara
Soloist, Soprano
She was born in 1900. December 1918 she gave two recitals at the Municipal Theater, making an impression on the Athenian audience. Then she studied in Paris, taught by Rose Caron. She reappeared in Athens from the mid-1920s to the second postwar decade. In 1931, she joined the Union of Greek Actors. Her career became closely associated with that of Dionysios Lavrangas. In a show conducted by him, she made her debut in the title role of Aida at the Central Theatre [Theatro Kentrikon] (17/1/1926). Since then, she regularly collaborated with the Third Greek Opera Company [Trito Elliniko Melodrama]. In the shows staged at Olympia Theater in 1930 on the occasion of the National Liberation Centennial, she interpreted the title role in Lavrangas's Dido, alongside baritone Yannis Angelopoulos and bass Michalis Vlachopoulos. A comment about the show by Sofia Spanoudi, published in the 82th volume of the magazine Nea Estia, includes a photo of the soloist in the role of Dido. She repeated this interpretation of hers 22 years later, at the first complete postwar staging of the work, this time by the GNO (12/4/1952). She was the mother of politician Kalliopi Bourdara.
