Maria Skarlatou
Soloist, Soprano
She trained at the National Conservatory, studying in the class of Kaiti Papalexopoulou and graduating with a 1st Prize and a Distinction for Superb Academic Performance (1976). She took voice lessons taught by Antonis Kalaitzakis and attended the National Theatre's Drama School. She has made recordings for the Radio and Television Foundation. She was a member of the Board at the Union of Opera and Operetta Actors and the Union of GNO Soloists. She taught at the Max Hallecker Conservatory and the Nikolaos Mantzaros Conservatory. During the years 1977-1999, she regularly collaborated with the GNO, interpreting leading, supporting and minor roles. She is included in the credits of three operas, four operettas and one musical, staged in 17 productions and/or revivals. She appeared as Vivika [The Godson/O vaftistikos], Vera [The Apaches of Athens/Oi Apachides ton Athinon], Hanna Glawari [The Merry Widow/Die lustige Witwe], Leonore [The Power of Fate/La forza del destino], Rosalinde [The Bat/Die Fledermaus], Antonia [The Tales of Hoffmann/Les contes d'Hoffmann], Julie LaVerne [Show Boat], Musetta [La bohème].
