Daniel Smith

Conductor
European-based Australian conductor, he rapidly gained international acclaim after winning prestigious prizes at UNESCO’s Fitelberg International Competition for Conductors, the Sir Georg Solti International Conducting Competition, “Luigi Mancinelli” International Competition for Opera Conductors and Witold Lutosławski Competition for Young Conductors. Then he went on to become Direttore Principale Ospite of Teatro Carlo Felice in Italy. He regularly worked with director Franco Zeffirelli and was the first Australian to conduct the Czech and London Philharmonics, as well as at the Mariinsky Theatre, Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Teatro San Carlo in Naples, Mozarteum Festival in Salzburg and Norwegian National Opera. He launched his charity foundation “The Daniel Smith ‘Gift of Music’ Foundation”, personally purchasing hundreds of tickets for those who could not normally attend due to financial constraint, terminal illness or disability. Ηe holds degrees from the Mozarteum University of Salzburg, Chigiana Music Academy in Siena and Trinity College in London.
