Athanasios Theodoropoulos

Lawyer, General Director of the Greek Parliament
He was born in Messini, Messinia. He studied Law at the University of Athens. He practised law in Athens between 1974 - 2011. After retiring the he was awarded the titke of Honorary Attorney by the Athens Bar Association. He also holds a degree in Economics and Political Science by the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He worked at the Hellenic Parliament since 1976, where he passed through all the ranks and retired from the position of General Director of the Hellenic Parliament. He worked at the Parliament for 39 years and for the last three years he held the position of General Director for Parliamentary Work, since that is the foreseen term for that position. He worked in the Directorate for Standing Committees as well as in the Directorate for Legislative Work (2011/12). He then became General Director for parliamentary work, responsible for the oversight and smooth operation of the Directorates of Legislative Work, Standing Committees, Parliamentary Control, Special Permanent Committees and Stenographic Services. He worked with all 10 (after the 1974 regime change) Presidents of the Hellenic Parliament (Papakonstantinou, Papaspyrou, Alevras, Tsaldaris, Kaklamanis, Benaki, Sioufas, Petsalnikos, Polydoras, Meimarakis) as well as all nine Greek Prime Ministers. He was very higly regarded and enjoyed the respect of all political parties and was endorsed by all seven political parties of the Parliament for the position of General Director of Parliamentary Work. He was actively involved in the cultural and athletic developments in the country and served as member of the BoD of the National Basketball Federation. He has been a member of the GNO Board of Directors since 2009. First he held the position of Vice President and from 2012 he was Pesident of the Board of the Greek National Opera. // Last update of the biography: March 2020.
