
Danis Tsakiridis
Soloist, Tenor
He studied at the Greek National Conservatoire under Gaston Depolla, receiving a diploma with distinction in 1959. He subsequently studied for five years in Italy under tenor Nino Piccaluga. He won Gold Medal at the Fano international song contest in Italy. He debuted as Duke of Mantua (Rigoletto). In 1961-62 he starred in the GNO world premiere of Manolis Kalomiris’ opera Constantine Palaiologos at the Athens Festival at Odeon of Herodes Atticus. During 1969-75 he was a permanent member of the GNO Chorus. During 1961-90 he appeared with GNO in approximately 45 productions and/or revivals, interpreting leading and supporting roles in 16 operas such as: Spring Tale [Anixiatiko paramythi] by Xirelis, Werther, Die Zauberflöte, Carmen, La bohème, Nabucco, Queen of Spades, Lucia di Lammermoor, Otello, Kostas Karyotakis by Theodorakis, Madama Butterfly etc. He also interpreted roles in the musical Show boat and the operettas The Godson [O Vaftistikos], Viktoria und ihr Husar, Das Dreimädelhaus and The apaches of Athens [I apahides ton Athinon]. He participated in the presentation of Petros Petridis’ oratorio St Paul (Odeon of Herodes Atticus, 1975). He served as a director of stage at the GNO. The entire filmed 1980 GNO production of the operetta Das Dreimädelhaus, where he interpreted the role of Moritz von Schwind. He also participated in the live recording of the Kostas Karyotakis opera (Seirios).
