Anastasia Vareli

Born in Rhodes. She took violin lessons on her native island. She studied singing with Fanny Aidali and theory at the State Conservatory of Thessaloniki, graduating with honors. At the same time she studied architectural engineering at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. With a scholarship from the German government (DAAD) continued her studies in singing at the Music Academy Cologne, under Josef Metternich, graduating with distinction. With a scholarship from the Zurich Opera she was accepted at the International Opera Studio in Zurich. At the same time, she attended voice and interpretation seminars with Elizabeth Schwarzkopf, Birgit Nilsonn and Fedora del Mar. For 15 years she interpreted operatic roles in theaters in Oldenburg and Ulm, and made occasional appearances in other German theaters (Wuppertal, Kiel, Aachen) as well as in France and Japan. She interpreted more than 50 soprano roles and appeared on German television. Since 1999 she has worked with the State Theatre of Bern, along with Christoph Loy, Kalisto Bieito and Aike Grams. Since 2004 she has been teaching stage action and direction at the Opera School of the Freiburg Academy. She has directed at the Athens Concert Hall such productions as Lulu, Der Zwerg and Erwartung. With the Greek National Opera she has worked as assistant to director Aike Grams in productions of Macbeth (2003), Le grande macabre (2004) and Don Giovanni while she directed the opera Il barbiere di Siviglia (2010/11). // Last update of the biography: November 2015 - The list of the productions below is continually updated.
