
Nicolas Vassiliou
Pianist, Chorus Master, Conductor
Nikos Vasiliou was born in Athens and obtained a piano diploma from the National Conservatoire (1991) under the guidance of Ηara Kalomiri. He attended classes at the Juilliard School New York and continued with studies in conducting at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, Glasgow on an Athens Academy Scholarship and an Alexander Gibson Scholarship. He has given many concerts in Athens’ Parnassus hall, as well as in a number of cultural events in various cities in Greece. He has worked as music teacher in secondary education and with the Filippos Nakas Conservatory; also taught piano and choral conducting at the National Conservatory, Athens since 1995. As chorus master of the Manolis Kalomiris Children’s Chorus (1992-2000), he has worked for the GNO, the Athens and Epidaurus Festivals and the Athens Concert Hall. Since 1994, he has worked as a répétiteur in more than sixty GNO productions, such as Turandot, Cavalleria rusticana and Pagliacci, Die Fledermaus, etc. He was initially appointed at the GNO as assistant chorus master (2001/03), and later as chorus master from 2005 to 2011. Since 2011, he is assistant conductor in the GNO and has been study advisor of the GNO Opera Studio. As a conductor, he has worked with the Athens State Orchestra, the Orchestra of Colors and the GNO Orchestra, while several of his works have been performed at the Athens Concert Hall. // Last update of the biography: May 2020 - The list of the productions below is continually updated.
