He was born in Lyon in 1942. He studied voice at the National Conservatory of Lyon. He began his artistic career at the Opera De Lyon (1969-72). In 1970, he won 1st Prize at the contests "Enrico Caruso" (U.S.A.) and "Golden Voices" (France) and 2nd Prize at the Competition "Hortense Schneider". Thereafter, he appeared in several opera houses of the French countryside. During the years 1982-1985, he was a member of the Opera of Avignon, where sang next to prominent singers, such as Montserrat Caballe, Renato Bruson, Giacomo Aragall, Nicolai Ghiaurov, Natalie Dessay, Roberto Alagna, etc. During the years 1985-1996, he sang mostly in theaters of France, Switzerland and Belgium, such as: Paris Opera (1994-2012), Opéra national du Rhin in Strasbourg, Rouen, Liege, Montpellier, Festival of Orange (1987, 1996), Avignon (1992), Geneva (1996), Toulouse, etc. He has excelled in leading and supporting baritone roles, such as: Vitellio (Hérodiade by Massenet), Escamillo (Carmen), Marcello (La bohème), Baron Scarpia (Tosca), Méphistophélès (Faust), Sigurd (Sigurd by Reyer), Nilakantha (Lakmé), Arkel (Pelléas et Mélisande), Devil (Les contes d’Hoffmann), Sancho Panza (Don Quichotte by Massenet), Fra Melitone (La forza del destino), Claudius (Hamlet by Thomas), Pizarro (Fidelio). He has received numerous awards in France. Many of his interpretations are available in commercial discography, both in CD and, especially, in DVD (BMG, Arthaus Musik, TDK, Opus Arte).
