British director, he was established as one of the foremost opera directors worldwide. His productions have been seen at the most prestigious opera houses throughout the world, including La Scala (Milan), the MET (New York), Royal Opera House (Covent Garden, London), Mariinsky Theatre (St. Petersburg), Deutsche Oper Berlin, San Francisco Opera, Arena di Verona etc. He has collaborated with leading conductors such as Muti, Levine, Haitink, Mehta, Ozawa and Gergiev. He has been director of productions at Glyndebourne Festival (1994/2000) and founded the Birmingham Opera Company (1987), where he was till the end its artistic director. He has received many international awards including three times the Premio Abbiati and twice the South Bank Show Award. Vick was a Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, a Honorary Professor of Music at the University of Birmingham and holded the International Chair of Opera at the Royal Northern College of Music. In 2006 he was made a CBE and in 2016 he was awarded Honorary Membership of the Royal Philharmonic Society.
