His designs for opera include productions of Attila, Simon Boccanegra, Stiffelio, Aida for the Royal Opera House (Covent Garden, London), as well as Ariadne auf Naxos, Otello, Così fan tutte, Les Contes d’Hoffman, L’elisir d’amore, Il barbiere di Siviglia for the Metropolitan Opera, New York. Moreover, he designed the sets for Roméo et Juliette (Salzburg Festival and Teatro alla Scala, Milan) while his Broadway productions
include the musicals The King and I, The Light in the Piazza and South Pacific. For The Light in the Piazza and South Pacific, he was awarded the Tony Award in Scene Design. He has worked extensively throughout the UK at the Royal Opera House, Welsh National Opera, Opera North and in the West End, as well as internationally. He is also co-chair of Stage Design at the Yale School of Drama. // Last update: January 2019
