
Yanni Yannissis
Soloist, Baritone
He was born in Athens. He completed his studies in monody at the Athens Conservatory under Kiki Morfoniou (1989). He continued his studies at the Juilliard School in New York under Dr. Charles Kellis, with a scholarship from the Maria Callas Foundation (1990). He has won numerous awards and accolades from international competitions, such as “Maria Callas” (Athens, 1987), the McAllen Education Agency (New York, 1991), etc. He debuted in 1989 at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus as Lord Guglielmo Cecil (Maria Stuarda). Since then he has appeared on major stages around the world: Metropolitan Opera New York as Jake Wallace (La fanciulla del West), Capulet (Roméo et Juliette) and Cirillo (Fedora); La Monnaie Brussels as Cesare Angelotti (Tosca); San Diego, USA as Colline (La bohème); Scottish Opera as Leporello (Don Giovanni); Frankfurt Opera as Sharpless (Madama Butterfly), etc. In the period 1997-2011 he appeared in the GNO productions of Tosca, Andrea Chénier, Carmen, Don Giovanni, Fedora, Die Zauberflöte, Anna Bolena, Il trovatore, Peter Grimes, Manolis Kalomiris’ The Mother’s Ring, Spiro Samara’s Rhea, La bohème, Aida (Oden of Herodes Atticus, 2009/10), Pavlos Carrer’s Despo and Gianni Schicchi. He has made several recordings.
