He was born in Tortona, Italy on 03/09/1914 and passed away in Vercelli on 26/11/1991. He studied under Aureliano Pertile, Francesco Merli, and Ferdinand Ciniselli. He debuted 1951 as Alvaro in the opera The Power of Fate [La forza del destino], in Varese, Italy and later on in the Teatro Verdi in Pisa. During the last years of his career he sang at leading opera houses in Italy, as well as in North America, Spain, Switzerland, Malta and Algeria). In the 1951/52 season he appeared at the Royal Opera House in London as Manrico [ The troubadour/Il Trovatore], while from 1953 to 1955 he sang at the Arena di Verona Festival as Radamès [Aida]. In 1959-60, he appeared in the Metropolitan Opera New York in the role of Turiddu [Rustic chivalry/Cavalleria Rusticana]. His performances from the period 1952-58 survive in recordings (TimaClub/Clama), while there numerous recordings available on the Internet. At the GNO he appeared in 1957-58 as Radamès [Aida], Don José [Carmen], and Manrico [The troubadour/Il Trovatore] (Olympia Theatre).
