
Angelo Simos
Soloist, Tenor
He was born in Athens. He studied at the Piraeus Conservatory under Thalia Moira, graduating in 1993 with a special distinction and first prize. He completed his musical and technique studies under Kostas Paschalis, Ileana Koutroumbas and Arrigo Pola. Since 1992 he has participated in more than thirty GNO productions and/or revivals, singing leading and supporting tenor roles in more than 20 operas, such as: Hoffman (Les contes d'Hoffmann), Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly), Rodolfo (La bohème), Pollione (Norma), Canio (Pagliacci), Riccardo (Un ballo in maschera), Duke of Mantua (Rigoletto), Mario Cavaradossi (Tosca), Ernani (Ernani), Peter Grimes (Peter Grimes), Forgael (Shadowy Waters / Ta ksotika nera), Macduff (Macbeth), Bacchus (Ariadne auf Naxos), etc. In his career beyond the GNO, he sang the roles: Florestan (Fidelio), Calàf (Turandot), Constantine Palaiologos (Constantine Palaiologos), Otello (Otello), Faust (Mefistofele), Erik (Der fliegende Holländer), Herodes (Salome), Prince Bellidor (Soeur Béatrice), Prince (East), etc. He has collaborated with several Greek institutions, including: Athens Concert Hall, Thessaloniki Concert Hall, Athens State Orchestra, Orchestra of Colors, Symphony Orchestra and Thessaloniki Municipality Choir. He sang in the world premiere of Theodorakis’ Medea (Bilbao, 1991). He recorded operas by Greek composers Dimitri Mitropoulos, Manolis Kalomiris, Spyro Samaras, Thanos Mikroutsikos, Pavlos Carrer, etc. (LYRA). He sang symphonic works and oratorios in festivals in Grece and abroad. He appeared internationally in theaters such as: Deutsche Oper am Rhein (Düsseldorf), Graz Opera (Austria), Oper Frankfurt, Carnegie Hall (New York), Pavia Municipal Theatre, State Opera Sofia, etc. He worked with renowned artists such as Anna Tomova-Sintova, Maria Guleghina, Agni Baltsa etc. He served as Deputy Stage Manager with the GNO in 2011-2013. // Last update of the biography: December 2015 - The list of productions below is continually updated.
