Yiannis Mantafounis
Dancer, Choreographer
Son of dancer/choreographer Haris Mantafounis. He was born in Athens. He studied dance in France and graduated from the Conservatoire National Supérieure de Musique et de Danse de Paris (1999). In this city is where he began his career as a dancer. He participated in international dance companies and he has collaborated with the Göteborg Opera (1999-2001), and the Netherlands Dance Theatre (2003-04), where he also presented his choreography. After he returned to Greece, he collaborated with the Modern Dance Group of Haris Mantafounis and he won the best dancer award by the Ministry of Culture (2002). In 2004 he participated as a dancer in the opening and closing ceremonies of the Athens Olympic Games, performing the role of the flying Cupid (2004). Since 2004 he is active as a choreographer. Since 2005 he is member of the Forsythe Company in Frankfurt. He is a founding member of the Lemurius dance group, for which he choreographed Human Dimensions and Projecting the Shadow. He has collaborated once with the GNO in the triple production of the ballets Solitaire – Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun – Les Sylphides [Solitaire – Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune – Les Sylphides], choreographing the second one (2006-07).
