Tichina Vaughn
Soloist, Mezzo-Soprano
She was born in the United States. She began her professional career as a member of the Young Artist Development Program at the Metropolitan Opera of New York after completing her studies at the University of North Carolina. She has been excelling in mezzo-soprano roles. She made her debut on the MET stage as Bess (Porgy and Bess), while her European debut was as Dame Quickly (Falstaff) and as Venus (Tannhäuser) at the Stuttgart State Theater, where she worked for eight years (1998-2996). She was awarded the title of Chamber Singer (Kammersängerin) by the Ministry of Culture of the German state Baden-Württemberg. Her repertory includes such roles as: Princess Eboli (Don Carlo), Azucena (Il trovatore), Amneris (Aida), Herodias (Salome), Fricka (Die Walküre), Erda (Siegfried and Das Rheingold), Klytemnestra (Elektra), Jezibaba (Rusalka), Isabella (L’Italiana in Algeri) and Ortrud (Lohengrin). She has appeared in Dresden, Stuttgart, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Seattle, Detroit, Helsinki, Hamburg, Frankfurt, Graz, Trieste, Genoa, Rome, Israel, at the Arena di Verona, Cagliari, Las Palmas, Hong Kong, at the Bregenz Festival, in Korea and elsewhere. She often participates in concerts and gives singing recitals. She has collaborated with leading conductors, including: James Conlon, Fabio Luisi, James Levine, et al. There are recordings of her interpretations on DVD. She has been repeatedly awarded prizes in the United States.
