Dancer, Choreographer
He was born in Athens in 1905. He studied in Paris at the Olga Preobrajenska school. He continued studies during the interwar in Berlin, where he took ballet lessons at the school of the renowned Russian ballerina Evgenia Eduardova, as well as expressive dance lessons under German modern dance pioneer Mary Wigman. He debuted at the Oper Stuttgart, and subsequently was principal dancer with the Bremen Opera (1929/30). In the 1930s he formed a duet with Svear Larson (not found), with the two of them touring around the world. Upon his return to Greece he was hired -together with Angelos Grimanis- by the National Theater of Greece, and subsequently both joined the newly established GNO as Ballet staff. From 1945 to 1953 he was principal dancer with the GNO, starring in the ballets: The eagle (O aetos) (1945/46, 1946/47, music George Sklavos), The Death of the Valiant Woman (O thanatos tis Antreiomenis) (1945/46, 1946/47 and 1950/51, music by Manolis Kalomiris) and The peddler (O pramateftis) (1947/48, music by Peter Petrides). He also danced in ballet segments in the operettas: The Godson (O vaftistikos) (1946/1947), Das Dreimädelhaus, Der Vogelhändler, Der Bettelestudent, Gräfin Mariza (1948/49), in Walzertraum, as well as in the operas Manon, Alceste (Odeon of Herodes Atticus, 1946/47), Rigoletto (1947/48), Martha, Carmen, The mother's ring (Το dakhtylidi tis manas), etc. He mostly appeared in GNO premieres. He founded a private school (1953-1960) and taught renowned dancers, including: Yannis Metsis, G. Economou and G. Rallidis. He also taught at the Koula Pratsika dance school and the Hellenic Conservatory School of Dance. He choreographed with several private dance companies.
