He was born on 07/11/1890 in Brno, Czech Republic. He studied law, but began working as an actor in Essen, Vienna, Prussia and Kaliningrad in 1910. After the end of the First World War, he worked as an impresario in Frankfurt, Nuremberg and Dortmund. In the years 1931-1933, he was senior director of the Coburg State Theatre and in 1933-1934, he took over the position of general intendant of the Bavarian State Theatres, which made him one of the most influential personalities in the German theatrical landscape. In May 1934, he was elected a member of the Board of Directors of the Theatre Chamber. After the establishment of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia, Wallek left Germany and settled in the Czech Republic, where he worked as a curator for the theatres in Prague. He was an ardent supporter and friend of the composer Gian Francesco Malipiero. In fact, almost all the premieres of his works were staged by Wallek, including Il mistero di Venezia (1932), Giulio Cesare (1938), Antonio e Cleopatra (1939). In March 1939, he became director of the State Opera in Prague and Innsbruck and then of the State Theatre in Linz. In 1970, he was honored for his successful career by the German Theatre Yearbook. He died on 01/07/1976 in Coburg.
